How to Plan Your Exit: Turning Over the Keys to Your Business (Qualified Remodeler magazine artice)
Sooner or later everyone retires. It is a simple fact of life. Ensuring that a remodeling business survives beyond this inevitability has become an important goal for many remodelers - whether they plan to retire next year, or ten years down the road.

But in planning a succession, tough questions soon arise. Who will take over the company? Will there be enough money for the transaction to comfortably live on? Will a family member or employee purchase the company from you or will you have to sell it to an outsider? All of these questions...

Keep up what you are doing. This class went faster for me than any I have been through, and I have been licensed since the state required it.

Makes you think about what you do!

What is a PBN Peer Coaching Group?

A PBN Peer Coaching Group is a membership organization that provides continuous training and personal development for contractor business owners, CEOs and presidents that run companies of similar size and in non-competing trades. PBN delivers to its members a powerful blend of business resources and personal support to overcome the challenge of running and growing a business.

The Peer Coaching Process

Groups
A Peer Coaching Group member meets once per month for three hours with up to 10 other CEOs in non competing trades. In completely confidential sessions members exchange ideas and opinions and provide direct, honest feedback that is difficult if not impossible to receive from their own companies, board of directors, or employees.

Facilitators
Each group is headed up by a PBN experienced business professional who ensures maximum value for each member by facilitating fast moving, interactive meetings in a collaborative “think tank” atmosphere.

The PBN facilitator also meets individually with each member once a month to help explore issues and opportunities in more depth. The facilitator acts as a coach, confidant, and personal advisor holding members accountable for executing plans and inspiring action to move their companies forward.

  Speakers
Subject matter experts are invited to speak on mutually agreed upon topics as necessary and agreed upon by members. These outside business experts present ideas and perspectives helping members overcome challenges, anticipate problems, and implement positive changes in their companies.

PBN Integrity
To remain objective, PBN facilitators may not accept consulting assignments from Peer Coaching Group members. PBN staff will not directly solicit members, however, members are free to approach speakers or other members for services. PBN protects is members’ privacy and maintains the highest standard of confidentiality.

Benefits of Peer Coaching

Reality vs. Theory - Discussions are focused on business challenges and applied solutions, not theories.

Business Radar - Allows you to hear, first hand, if something you are planning has been attempted or executed successfully and what the pitfalls may be.

Sound Board – PBN produces a talented, experienced peer group where virtually all issues can be discussed. The group and facilitator operate in a “think tank” environment fostering lateral thinking and honest input and reactions.

Overcoming Seclusion- It is lonely at the top. It is refreshing to share the rewards and challenges associated with people facing similar high levels of responsibility. The supportive peer group helps reduce stress by discussing issues that cannot be shared with staff, friends, or other business people.

How to Join a PBN Peer Coaching Group
Space is limited and membership in Peer Coaching Groups is by invitation only, following an interview with a PBN facilitator. Contact Ted Capistrant (link to bio) at The Profit Builder Network to schedule an interview and to get more information about joining.

Commitment
Peer Group membership requires a commitment of three hours per month to attend the meeting, and one to two hours per month for a one-on-one session with the PBN facilitator. By joining a peer coaching group, each member agrees to guidelines that ensure an atmosphere of cooperation and strict confidentiality.

Each member typically rotates hosting the monthly meeting at their facility. Also, PBN has ample conference space for meetings. The length of meeting and time varies per the group’s consensus. Typically, lunch or evening hours work the best for all involved.
